Ford nick victory as South still struggle

IN THE Premier Division, struggling South Liverpool were edged out 3-2 at Ford Motors.

Chris McGrath and James Kelly scored for South, but Ally McCracken, with his seventh of the season, plus strikes from Matt Dooling and Colin Gannon, saw Ford home.

Leaders East Villa strolled the game at St Aloysius, winning 5-2, with Peter Gannon adding to his tally with a hat-trick.

Second-placed Waterloo Dock beat South Sefton Boro 2-0 to stay in touch with East Villa, Paul Ryder and Joe Roberts with the goals.

Red Rum had the escape of the day after being behind l1-0 to Birchfield and down to eight players.

But they then equalised through Jordan Knockton’s corner and then won the game in the dying minutes with a Jimmy Wiencke shot that deceived the goalkeeper.

NELTC stay fifth but are now on equal points with South Liverpool after a 4-2 win at Speke, Mark Johnson, Dave O’Leary, Yinka and Steve Cummins ensuring the points. Speke replied via Colin McKnight and Graham Molly.

St Dominics are still at the wrong end of the table after a 1-1 draw with Lucas Sports, James Croxton hitting his 11th goal of the season.

In the bottom-of-the-table clash, Collegiate emerged victorious with a 4-2 win at Roma, Thomas Wignall and Mark Marriott, with his second goal in consecutive games, putting Collegiate on the road to a victory that lifted them above Roma.

In Division One second-placed Aigburth PH needed a last-gasp goal to narrow the gap on Alder to one point with Mick Hannaway scoring his 12th of the season. For Edge Hill Phil Evans took his personal tally to 10.

Page Celtic, still struggling for form, were held 1-1 at Albany Athletic, Joe Feeney with his 12th for Celtic replied to by Steve Driscoll with his 10th of the season.

Cheshire Lines needed a Danny Beard goal to stay third with a 1-0 win while Kingsley United found their scoring boots with a 5-1 win over hapless Angus Village, Cole with a pair for Kingsley.

North Sefton are this season’s surprise package, this time beating in-form Mackets 3-1. Mick Ford scored a double added to by Paul Finnan, and Tony Askew replied.

Erratic Warbreck bagged a 3-2 win at Stoneycroft, Thomas King, Andy Flood and Gary Highton on target as a Liam Currie’s pair was in vain for Stoneycroft.

In Division Two, it’s already looking like a two-horse race, after Sacre Coeur smashed six past Leisure Sports without reply. John Carragher scored twice.

Blueline put five past Redgate Rovers, a Mick McGinn with a hat-trick giving him seven for the season.

Eli Lilly came away from Jubilee with all the points, winning 2-1.

Lydiate Weld rubbed salt in Rockville’s wounds with a 4-1 drubbing, Nick Barker with a hat-trick.

Old Holts were beaten by Leyfield at home 3-2, Whittaker grabbing two and taking his season’s total to eight.
