WHITBY’S current record suggested that this Unibond Premier League match would produce goals galore and so it proved – as the home side succumbed to Prescot’s incredible fightback from three goals down.
Charlton opened the scoring after only three minutes before Gildea increased the home side’s lead.
After the break a clumsy challenge by Karl Bell resulted in Gordon’s free-kick flying into the net via the post.
A 3-0 scoreline would normally mean the end but on 63 minutes Karl Bell’s prod from a corner found the net and this lifted Prescot as Whitby lost their way.
A quick corner resulted in substitute Byers heading in after 71 minutes.
An ugly incident and free-for-all helped to diminish Prescot’s momentum. In the 91st minute, however, another corner was converted by Byers to complete a remarkable recovery.
PRESCOT CABLES: Mottram, Freeman, Flood, McEwen, Bell, Moore, Lynch, Stannard (Tierney), Connolly, Price (Wade), McNutt (Byers).
