CAMMELL LAIRD made it eight wins out of eight at home in the UniBond League Division One South with a hard-fought win over a plucky Quorn side.
The Leicestershire men had certainly not made the long journey to make up the numbers and made Lairds battle all the way for the points.
Lairds went in front on eight minutes when skipper Anthony Lynch fed the ball through to top scorer Alex Hay, who bent his run in true Ian Rush style to slot past Daniel Haystead in the Quorn goal.
Haystead was up to the job minutes later when he saved well from a Greg Stones piledriver.
Paul White then came close for Quorn but was thwarted by a Stones block on the line.
Haystead made a fine save from Chris Adamson early on in the second half to keep Quorn in the game but the Birkenhead men wrapped up the points and consolidated second place in the league with a second for Hay, who latched on to a Graham Jones cross to tap in.
Lairds are three points behind leaders Retford United, who they entertain a week on Saturday.
