Marine victory a fine tribute

A BRILLIANT Karl O’Donnell hat-trick and a magnificent Marine performance were a fitting tribute to ex-Marine chairman Tom Culshaw who sadly passed away last weekend. The 3-2 win earned the Mariners a double over Matlock in this UniBond League Premier League clash at Causeway Lane.

After almost total domination, Marine took the lead in the 33rd minute. Karl O’Donnell got on the end of a Lee Parle pass and struck the ball low into the corner of the net.

Two minutes later O’Donnell scored his second when he flicked in a Wayne McDermott corner at the near post.

On the hour mark Matlock pulled a goal back when a long-range shot deceived Marine keeper Andy Banks. This just spurred Marine into an instant response.

O’Donnell received the ball by the corner flag, ran down the by-line and from a seemingly impossible angle shot past Andy Richmond.

With two minutes to go Matlock gave the score line a somewhat flattering look when Curtis Shaw scored from the penalty spot after Adam Farley had been penalised.

MARINE: Banks, Brazier, Farley, Connolly, McDermott, Brookfield, Hussey, Parle, Cumiskey, O’Donnell, Towey. Subs: Young, Woolcott, Latham.
