CHALLENGE Cup holders Waterloo Dock made hard work of a 1-0 win over Marine Reserves in a repeat of last year’s final.
The only goal was superbly taken by leading marksman Tony Denson to take his total to 15 goals for the campaign so far.
Premier League leaders East Villa made lighter work of North Sefton, winning 2-0 with Franny McIntosh and Graham Rooney the scorers.
Old Xaverians scored the biggest win of the day with a 6-0 drubbing of Birchfield. A hat-trick for Matty Williams and two for Carl Gargan helping them on their way. But the game’s big talking point was the first ever caution issued to Darren Partington of Old Xavs in 20 years of playing football.
Red Rum scored a tremendous win over fellow league members St Dominics. Jonathan Swatton and Steve Blundell were on the mark for the Rum. The ever reliable James Croxton replied to take his tally for the year to 15, but it was not enough to stop Rum progressing to the quarter-finals.
Speke and NELTC will play again on January 5 after weather intervened to deny both a game.
Cheshire Lines, despite a John Hagadorn goal, went down 4-1 to Whiston Cross. Hagadorn has now scored 12 for the season.
In the Junior Cup Leagues sides suffered mixed results. Mossley Hill sneaked a goal to send Albany crashing to defeat.
Blueline have Mark Meekin to thank for the only goal of the game against Halsall that saw Blueline into the last eight.
Northern Telecoms had a bad day against Old Bootlians going down 4-1 at home, Mike Keegan notching the Telecoms goal.
Page Celtic also suffered, going down on penalties 5-4 after finishing level with Billinge at 3-3 after extra-time. Tony Sullivan, Mike McGowan and Paul Brown scored for Celtic.
Sacre Coeur made easy work of Penlake Reserves, winning 5-1, with John Carragher among the goals again for Sacre.
Stoneycroft inflicted the first defeat of any sorts on Bankfield this season, winning 2-1 after extra time, Shaun Butterworth (with his 14th goal) and Anthony Charlton scored the vital goals for Stoneycroft.
In the North West Counties Cup quarter-finals it’s South Liverpool who progress after a 2-0 away win at Ford Motors, Kevin Martin and Gary Dunning on the mark, with the latter now hitting the 11 goals mark.
In the Premier League’s only game Roma again could make no inroads on the fight against relegation, going down 2-1 to stay in deep trouble at the foot of the table despite a Dave Cooney penalty. James Henderson and then an own goal sealed Roma’s fate.
In Division One, leaders Alder FC made easy work of REMYCA United 3-0 with Timmy Naylor increasing his totals by another two. Anthony Wong notched his eighth of the campaign. Kingsley and Edge Hill fought out a 2-2 draw, O’Brien and Hinds for Kingsley being matched by Alan Sang and Paul O’Hare for Edge Hill.
In Division Two, the biggest score of the day was developing at Rockville were they went down 11-1 to Leyfield with hat-tricks for David Mears and Mike Bate. Rockville are firmly rooted to the base of the division.
Jubilee Triangle beat Liobians 2-1 with Mike Berry again on the scoresheet. Essemmay OB saw off Eli Lilly 6-1 with Carl Morris hitting a pair.
