Blacon go West as Kirby duo hit the hat-trick trail

FREE-SCORING West Kirby had an early Christmas present when mid-table Blacon Youth Club fielded several reserve players in their Carlsberg West Cheshire League Division One clash.

Lee Cairns opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Blacon goalkeeper Louis Makin was slow getting down to stop his shot. But he had no chance with Cairns’s second after 35 minutes and two minutes later Ged Gannon made it three.

The nearest Blacon came to a goal in the entire match was in the dying minutes of the first half with a chance cleared off the line.

After 50 minutes Blacon’s Ellis Dunning found his own net when he volleyed in from the edge of the box.

Left-back Gannon then made it five after 55 minutes with a mazy run through the Blacon defence to slot home from five yards.

Jon Paul Stanhope burst into the penalty area and was brought down, allowing Cairns to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot.

To round off a disappointing day for Dunning, he was red-carded in the 65th minute.

West Kirby then added two more with Gannon netting his hat-trick from the penalty spot before Liam Atherton fired home in the closing minutes.

Runcorn Town avenged their shock defeat last week at the hands of Maghull when they netted seven times courtesy of Ken Hamrod (2), Simon Burton (2) and one each from Simon Latham, Ian Robinson and James McShane. Brian Edwards got a consolation for Maghull.

Goals from Anthony Johnstone and Paul Wainwright halted the decline at Aintree Villa against Castrol Social.

A Louis Walters strike for Ellesmere Port was cancelled out by Paul Pearson’s equaliser for Marine Reserves.

Vauxhall Motors Reserves continued their good form, even after losing their red-carded keeper, with doubles from David Lynch and Thomas Carroll and one from Anthony Carroll against fourth-placed Upton AA. The visitors, who also lost a man, struck back through Ashley Williams, Ilya Haycock and Danny Andrews.

Christleton changed places with Newton after a comfortable home win with Tom Ward striking twice, assisted by Sean O’Rourke, Scott Robinson and Kia Stockton. Steve Jones hit a brace for the visitors.

Ashville were outplayed by rivals New Brighton. Mike Burke and Phil Hudson bagged two apiece with Kyle Maughan adding a fifth. Francis Holman replied for Ashville.

In the second division West Kirby Reserves took an early lead through Wayne Hulse against Capenhurst Villa, who equalised through Alan Locke before Andy Jobber grabbed the winner.

Leaders Poulton Vics Reserves were held after John White had put them ahead only for Lee Dermondy to strike for New Brighton Reserves.

Grange Athletic moved into fifth place after two goals from Craig Newnes and Graham Tolly secured maximum points at Chester Nomads. Drew McKenzie pulled one back for Nomads.

Bronze Social moved up to third in Division Three with a close win at the expense of Richmond Raith Rovers, Shaun Mooney and Jack McNabb getting the important goals after David Allen had netted for the visitors.

Hale, weakened by the loss of players for the county side, were no match for leaders Mossley Hill. The home side had Phil Frankland, Steve Owens, Paul Cannon and Shaun Alcock on target whilst Fassilli Poza pulled one back for Hale.

A hat-trick for Paul Hart and goals from Jay Beech, Peter Murphy, John Coady and Danny Cummins set up an easy win for Runcorn Town Reserves against visitors Upton AA Reserves.
