Waterloo cut league lead to just two points

IN a reduced fixture list because of closures to council pitches, East Villa’s lead at the top was reduced to two points as Waterloo Dock overcame a strong challenge from NELTC to win 3-2.

Tony Denson scored another two to add to his total, which now stands at 17 for the season. Paul Ryder hit with the other goal for Waterloo.

NELTC scorers were Jay Hargreaves and they were allowed a way back in by a Dock own goal.

St Dominics thrashed Roma 5-1 with James Croxton on the scoresheet with his 16th of the season.

Other scorers for St Dominics were Mark Cashman, Carl McGarry and Matty Barnforth.

Birchfield edged to victory at BRNESC, 1-0 to move to seventh, Mark Tooey with the all-important goal. Old Xaverians’ run came to an end after a 1-1 draw with South Liverpool.

A Paul Cross screamer from 20 yards gave them the lead only for John Poland to equalise for South and to ensure they stay well placed just below the top two.

Fords and South Sefton Borough also shared the points with a 1-1 draw.

Mark Ellis hit the goal for Fords, which was replied to by Anthony Dowd for South Sefton.

Division One was severely curtailed due to more council pitch closures, with only three games surviving.

Leaders Alder FC will be kicking themselves after letting the chance to move away at the top slip through their fingers.

They were beaten 2-0 by Albany Athletic, Mike Kinney and Paul Carruthers with the vital strikes which moved their side into seventh position and challenging the leaders.

Kingsley United must also be ruing their missed chance to get out of the relegation zone as they were beaten by a single Carl Garth strike for Mackets Grenadier, which moves Mackets to 10th but leaves Kingsley anxiously looking over their shoulders at the three clubs below them.

REMYCA United found their scoring boots, beating Copperas Hill 5-2.

Paul Smith hit a couple to send REMYCA to the dizzy heights of fifth, equal with Page Celtic and pushing for a promotion spot. Copperas Hill, meanwhile, are in serious trouble at the bottom.

In Division Two only two games were played, as Leisure Sports and Jubilee Triangle shared the points and the goals in a 2-2 draw, a result that puts a little more space between Rockville and Leisure at the foot of the table. Alan Hayes and Josh Cribb scored for Leisure and Ashley Marsh and Steve Woods for Jubilee.

In the other game, Eli Lilly also went berserk by scoring five past Old Holts in a 5-1 win, Tony Kirk grabbing a pair and Rick Maloney also finding the net. Anthony Morgan scored for Old Holts.
