Squirrels in Vase quest

FORMBY made the long journey to Essex last night as they prepared for today’s attempt to reach the last 16 of the FA Vase.

The Squirrels are in fourth round action at Colchester-based Stanway Rovers, the tie having postponed last Saturday because of a waterlogged pitch.

“It is a game we feel we can win, and we have the incentive that if we do get through, we will be at home in the next round,” said joint-manager Peter Henerty.

The winners will entertain Coventry Sphinx or Salford City in the fifth round on Saturday, February 9.

New Runcorn Linnets manager Steve Wilkes takes charge of his first game at Cheadle Town in the third round of the Vodkat League Cup.

Also in League Cup action are Bootle, who travel to Second Division rivals Darwen.

St Helens Town bid to get back on track after two consecutive 5-0 defeats when they travel to bottom club Abbey Hey in the Vodkat First Division.

Ashton Athletic continue their Second Division promotion bid with a trip to Leek CSOB, while Ashton Town are at home to Holker Old Boys.
