Cammell Lairds left battered in Presidents Cup encounter

AFTER four postponements Cammell Laird finally managed to play this UniBond League Presidents Cup third round tie at Nantwich's Weaver Stadium.

But they were left wishing it had been called off again after a humiliating defeat.

Paul Taylor put the home side ahead in the 10th minute and they soon doubled their lead through Ashley Carter.

Ten minutes into the second period the Dabbers added a third when Taylor bagged his second.

There was hope for Lairds when debutant Carl Furlong tapped in the rebound following a thunderous John Couch header onto the bar.

But rampant Nantwich wrapped up a miserable day for Lairds with two further goals from Andy Kinsey and Danny Griggs.

Some urgent regrouping will be needed by the Birkenhead side, who travel back to the same venue tomorrow when they take on Nantwich in the semi-final of the Cheshire Senior Cup.
