Marine fightback falls short
MARINE failed to make a two-man advantage count after going three goals behind to an aggressive Frickley Athletic in this UniBond Premier game.
Frickley took the lead on 10 minutes when Neil Towler volleyed the visitors ahead and they doubled their lead on 20 minutes. An innocuous looking free-kick was played into Marine’s penalty area but Andy Brown seemed to lose the ball in the sun and was completely static as Steve Robinson’s glancing header sailed past him.
On 39 minutes James Connolly’s defensive mix-up with Phil Brazier allowed Robert Pell free to slip the ball into an empty net.
Minutes later Phil Lindley received his marching orders for persistent fouling and deep into first-half injury time O’Donnell was brought down in the box. Steve Robinson received a straight red and Hussey scored the spot-kick.
With eight minutes to go Latham unleashed a screamer that was in the net before Hood could move.
In injury time Hood produced a fine save to secure his side the three points.
