STYAL, who have never won a major honour in the Cheshire Building Society Cheshire League, hit top place in Division One for the first time when they won by six clear goals at Rylands.
With Greenall Padgate St Oswald’s losing at Crosfields, Styal jump into the lead with 43 points from 19 games, two more than Pilkington, who were involved in the President’s Cup. Styal have improved rapidly over the past few seasons and have built on a decent fourth placing in 2006-07. Their goals in a runaway win at Rylands came from a hat-trick by Dave Graham, Craig Massey, John Thornton and Olly Barnes.
Crosfields beat Greenall 3-2, their goals coming from Stuart Wellstead (2) and Lee Boardman, with Rob Hanley (2) replying.
A Mike Scully hat-trick helped Garswood United beat Trafford reserves 4-2, while Knutsford won 2-0 at bottom club Poynton. Curzon Ashton reserves edged home 3-2 at Woodley Sports with a late winner from Adam Buckley.
In Division Two Broadheath Central won 4-1 against Warrington town reserves with Jimmy Cumbes hitting two.
