SOUTHPORT manager Peter Davenport is confident of ending his long search for a striker next week.
The Sandgrounders chief has been desperate to boost his squad’s firepower as they bid to step up their promotion challenge in Blue Square North.
Too often in recent weeks Port have failed to make their dominance count and it’s a problem Davenport has been determined to solve.
Davenport said: “It’s been really frustrating because some lads won’t drop down to this level, other times clubs won’t let players go and then some lads are way out of our budget.
“We’ve got the finances available to do something and it’s probably going to be a loan deal. There are lads out there it’s just a case of biding your time.”
Port head for lowly Hinckley United today desperate to end a five-match winless streak.
That run has seen them slip to fourth place, 13 points adrift of leaders Kettering.
Hinckley were brushed aside 4-0 when the sides met at Haig Avenue in September and Port need to complete the double to ensure they remain in the play-off places.
Davenport said: “It won’t be easy because Hinckley are fighting for their lives and we lost to Blyth two weeks ago who are in a similar situation.
“Last season Hinckley were play-off finalists but things haven’t gone well for them this season.
“Maybe there was an adverse reaction to not getting promoted, and they have had a lot of injuries.
“We beat them comfortably at home but they are a decent team and we will have to be at our best.”
