SKELMERSDALE maintained their lead at the top of the UniBond League Division One North with a comprehensive win over Bridlington Town – albeit it took them a while to get into their stride.
The opening goal came in the 43rd minute when George Donnelly scored his 20th of the season with an easy tap-in at close range from Leadbetter’s cross.
Skem’s second came two minutes later and once again it was courtesy of Kevin Leadbetter who this time floated in a free-kick from the corner of the penalty box which managed to evade Bridlington’s defence and was headed between keeper and far post quite gracefully by Tom Hardwick.
Adam Birchall got on the scoresheet in the 65th minute when he stroked the ball home following Donnelly’s shot which was spilt by the keeper.
The rout was complete in the 74th minute when Paul Prescott’s winning tackle put him in the clear only to see him unselfishly square the ball to Anthony Murt who thrashed the ball into the roof of the net.
Man of the match was Adam Birchall, who worked tirelessly and was a thorn in the Bridlington’s side.
SKELMERSDALE: McMahon, Foster, Hardwick, Akrigg, White, Duffy (Almond 45) Birchall, Turner, Murt (Mooney 84) Donnelly, Leadbetter (Prescott 66).
