Welch back to strengthen Vics’ relegation fight

FOR their visit to bottom club Droylsden in a Blue Square Premier six-pointer tonight, Northwich Victoria recall club captain and centre-half Michael Welch, whose experience was badly missed in Saturday’s 3-3 home draw against Ebbsfleet United.

Welch returns after a one-match ban, with Rotherham United loanee Nat Kerr expected to switch to right-back. This would enable Welsh Under 23 international Michael Byrne to move from full-back into midfield and replace Danny Williams, who was stretchered off with a badly twisted knee on Saturday and could be missing for two weeks.

All six clubs directly involved in the relegation battle are in action to-night and Vics urgently need a repeat of their fine win at Woking 10 days ago if they are to make progress in their bid to move out of the bottom four. When they met Droylsden earlier in the season the teams drew 3-3 at the Marston’s Arena.

Northwich’s visit to York City on Easter Tuesday is to be televised live on Setanta Sports.
