BILLY O’CALLAGHAN celebrated his recent transfer with a double that sends Roma deeper into the mire at the foot of the Premier Division while strengthening the East Villa threat to the title.
Franny McIntosh also grabbed a pair and Tony Evans completed the 5-0 rout.
Leaders Waterloo Dock saw off a strong challenge from Ford Motors to win 2-0 and maintain their nine-point lead over East Villa, Liam Huson and John Morgan scoring the goals.
Third-placed South Liverpool were surprisingly beaten by St Aloysius 3-2 to lose ground on the top two. Joe Duncan, Paul Wheeler and Jamie Henders, with his 16th of the season, scored for St Aloysius while John Poland grabbed both goals for South.
Red Rum have taken advantage of the slip after beating Old Xaverians 3-1, Jimmy Wiencke adding a further two to his total, which now stands at 19 for the season. Andrew Bailey got the other for the Rum while Simon Grant replied.
NELTC (Mark Johnson) and St Dominics drew 1-1, Chris Kennedy scoring for the Saints.
Speke made hard work of a 2-1 win over Lucas Sports, Colin McKnight aided by Steve Parle seeing Speke into ninth spot
At the bottom it’s becoming a dog fight between BRNESC and South Sefton Boro as BRNESC beat fellow strugglers Collegiate OB 2-0 (Steve Taylor, Paul Thorpe) to put pressure on Boro, who were beaten 2-0 at home by Birchfield. The gap is now just four points and they still have to play each other at BRNESC. Dean Kenny and Dan Holland scored for Birchfield.
In Division One it’s hotting up at the top and the bottom. Leaders Alder were beaten by third-placed Aigburth PH 3-1 at home, Paul McInerney, Steve Bailey and Lee Malone scoring. Anthony Wong replied to take his total to 12.
Second-placed Page Celtic closed the gap to just one point on Alder with a solid 3-2 win at county finalists Stoneycroft. Tony Sullivan delivered a pair while Arron Branwell scored again. Celtic have three games in hand on Alder. Shaun Butterworth scored for Stoneycroft to take his total to 18 for the season.
Fourth-placed REMYCA also struggled, but managed to overcome a strong challenge from North Sefton with Paul Smith grabbing the winner and his 16th of the season. Paul Finnan scored both North Sefton goals to take his tally to 13.
North Sefton must be looking over their shoulder at the clubs at the bottom on their tails.
Cheshire Lines maintained their outside interest in promotion with a 4-2 home win over Kingsley United, John Hagadorn, with his 19th of the season, and Callum Holmes scoring twice.
Edge Hill made hard work of a 1-0 win over Albany Athletic, thanks to Phil Evans with his 13th of the season.
Mackets and Warbreck played 90 minutes without a goal. At the bottom Copperas Hill beat Angus Village 2-0 to give them an outside chance of avoiding the drop, Steve Murphy notching a pair.
In Division Two, Essemmay appear to be strolling off with the title after another good win, this time over bottom club Rockville 3-1. Brian Little was back on the scoresheet for Essemmay while Phil Thomas scored his 11th of the season for Rockville.
