Port line up Jack signing

SOUTHPORT manager Peter Davenport is hoping to sign veteran striker Rodney Jack.

The 35-year-old has been without a club since he was released by Crewe at the end of last season, but has been training with the Sandgrounders ahead of today’s trip to high-flying Telford United in the Blue Square North.

Jack, who plays international football for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, boasts a wealth of experience having also played for Torquay, Rushden and Oldham.

He first trained with Port last summer but then returned to the Caribbean due to family commitments.

Davenport said: “Rodney has been training with us this week and is starting to look sharp.

“He hasn’t played many games in the last six months and needed to up his fitness.

“We would like to sort something out, but it all depends on finance.

“Any club at this stage of the season would be interested in signing someone of his pedigree and quality. If we can do a deal I would be pleased but it’s still in the melting pot.”

Port face a crunch Easter weekend as they battle to force their way back into the play-off places.

Today’s game at Telford is followed by a home clash with struggling Workington on Monday.

Meanwhile in the Blue Square Premier Northwich Victoria host Farsley Celtic, kick-off is 3pm.
