Tranmere land award for family friendliness

TRANMERE are one of just four North West clubs to earn the Football League’s new Family Excellence Award for this season.

Rovers chairman Lorraine Rogers says she regards the award as a mark of excellence, reflecting the club’s commitment to a family friendly environment at Prenton Park.

The experience of a League One fixture at Prenton Park was tested by a group of mystery customers appointed by the League – in this case a family of four who attended games this season as home and away supporters.

The family sampled aspects of Tranmere’s facilities and performance in the areas of ticketing and stewarding, comfort and safety, food, drink, toilets, pre-match and half-time entertainment.

To add balance to the test, the family group included one adult member who was a keen football enthusiast and another who wasn’t, plus two children.

Rogers explained every club in the Football League received a detailed report on the findings of the mystery customers who visited their grounds. She said: “We are very proud to be one of 32 clubs nationwide and one of four in the northwest to receive the Family Excellece Award.

“The details of the report are also valuable to us because it gives us feedback on what we’re doing and how we can try and improve further.”

The report praised Tranmere’s stewarding, food and club shop while Prenton Park was described as “a proper ground with a history.”

Rogers added: “This season we have introduced family friendly areas in each stand at Prenton Park and a run match ticket initiatives aimed specifically at families.

“We hope the award will show families from across the region that we offer an attractive day out. Once people taste the Prenton Park experience, we hope they will want to come back again.”
