THE loan transfer window closed last night with a flurry of phone calls to the Deva Stadium, but in the end nobody moved in or out.
Darlington and Wrexham both had requests for Kevin Ellison turned down at midday, but the Welshmen returned on two occasions to try and secure the 29-year-old, who is City’s leading scorer.Following the retirement of striker Eifion Williams because of a persistent injury, basement club Wrexham were desperate to bolster their strikeforce.However, Chester remained steadfast in their resolve.City owner Stephen Vaughan said last night: “Kevin Ellison is contracted to Chester City until 2010, and as we have said consistently over the past few days we didn’t want him to move away from this football club.”Meanwhile, one of Chester’s old boys could be lining up against them tomorrow when promotion-chasing Stockport county visit the Deva Stadium.Midfielder Ryan Lowe joined County from Crewe Alexandra until the end of the season, and he is expected to be included in the Stockport starting 11 tomorrow.City will be without experienced midfield player Tony Dinning who is serving a one-match suspension, whilst Tony Grant and Chris Holroyd remain on the sidelines because of injury.Central defender Paul Butler will return to the side after recovering form his foot injury, whilst James Vaughan is given a 50-50 chance of being fit. 29-year-old, who is City’s leading scorer.
