Davenport confident

MANAGER Peter Davenport believes a successful Easter has put Southport in the box seat to secure a place in the Blue Square North play-offs.

The Sandgrounders enjoyed their biggest away win of the season last Saturday hammering promotion rivals Telford 5-1.

Spirits were dampened by a 1-1 draw at home to Workington on Monday but Davenport’s men entertain mid-table outfit Boston United today, with matches to come against struggling Solihull, Alfreton, Leigh RMI and Vauxhall Motors.

“We would have settled for four points and now we’ve got to build on it,” he said. “It’s in our hands and we’ve just got to keep grinding out results.”

Meanwhile, Port’s players have opted not to press charges against Redditch opponents over a brawl after the bad-tempered clash between the clubs earlier this month.

Davenport said: “There were good grounds to press charges but the police said it could be two years before anything went to court.”

Port will face Chorley in the final of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy on Wednesday (7.45pm) at Leyland.
