WARRINGTON TOWN lost a thrilling match UniBond League First Division South at Alsager.
The home side started brightest and it was no surprise when they took the lead after winger Jimmy McCarthy was given time and space to cut inside and dispatch a shot past Diego Bassanini, from the edge of the box.
Town keeper Bassanini produced two more saves shortly afterwards, the second of which was an excellent double save. Town, somewhat surprisingly, equalised in the 27th minute, when Carl Rendell was on hand to slam home from close range following a scramble in the Alsager box.
Within 90 seconds of the restart, Town were behind, following a defensive mistake, allowing striker Lee Talbot time to easily beat Bassanini and put the home side ahead. Thomas Lamb should have equalised just four minutes later, seeing his shot being cleared off the line after his initial effort was parried by keeper Danny Roberts.
Alsager should have gone further ahead soon after but striker Chris Budrys was off target, however, they didn't have to wait long for a third goal, as McCarthy was on the end of an insisive counter attack to slot the ball beyond Bassanini.
Town did manage to find a goal and it came from captain Tom Spearitt, who picked the ball up just inside the Alsager half, powered past two defenders before unleashing a drive past Roberts.
TOWN: Bassanini, Thomas, Fitzsimmons, Spearitt, Prescott (Everett, 70), K Brown, Towey (Holmes, 81), Smith (Owens, 70), Rendell, Lamb, Daniels
