Cables cut down

PRESCOT lost to high-flying Gateshead despite matching them throughout this UniBond League Premier Division game.

Prescot created a number of openings throughout the first half but the Gateshead defence held firm.

On 41 minutes the referee awarded a controversial free-kick to the visitors inside their own half. From the following clearance the ball fell to Phil Turnbull 20 yards out who produced a stunning first time shot into the corner of Richard Mottram’s net.

Two minutes later they doubled their lead when Carl Jones tapped the ball in from six yards.

The second half saw Prescot apply the pressure but they couldn’t find a way past the impressive back-line and the score remained 2-0. Cables host Worksop Town on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
