Chester to offer pair new contracts

CHESTER CITY manager Simon Davies will sit down with midfielder Paul Rutherford and striker Chris Holroyd later this week, with a view to extending their contracts with the Deva Stadium club.

Holroyd, who has been out of action for the past fortnight with an ankle injury, has begun to establish himself in the first team squad this season, whilst Rutherford has blossomed under the stewardship of Davies, who took over the managerial reins from Bobby Williamson at the beginning of last month.

City’s managing director Bob Gray said last night: “Both players have impressed Simon (Davies) and he is keen to tie them down to longer contracts with the club.”

Chester skipper Paul Butler may well be out of action for up to a fortnight, after suffering a reoccurrence of an Achilles injury at Hereford United on Saturday.

Butler failed to reappear in the second half of the game at Edgar Street, which presented another opportunity to youngster Shaun Kelly who is another graduate of the club’s impressive youth set up.

Meanwhile, City’s Sales and Marketing manager Ian Duran has left the club.

Chester’s youngsters recorded another victory in the FA Youth Alliance over the weekend when they defeated Preston 1-0 at Broughton.

Jack Rowlands scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half of the match. Next Saturday the youngsters travel to face Rochdale.
