Gray looks on bright side

PRESCOT Cables continue their battle for survival in the UniBond League Premier Division with a daunting trip to high-flying Gateshead today.

With three games left, Cables are just a point above the relegation zone. But manager Andy Gray said: “With all the problems we have had behind the scenes, whatever happens on the field is an achievement in itself, and I am proud of the lads for all the hard work they have put in.”

Skelmersdale United are keen to renew their First Division South title challenge in their home game against Radcliffe Borough.

Skem have slipped to second, conceding pole to Curzon Ashton, who are three points ahead with a game in hand.

Tommy Lawson’s men last Saturday crashed 5-3 to Clitheroe after leading 2-0, and the Ashley Travel Stadium manager said: “Our pride was hurt. We have to just get over it. Every team has a result like that once in a while.”

Formby look to bounce back from their midweek 5-1 mauling by newly-crowned Vodkat Division One champions Trafford when they take on lowly Atherton Collieries at home.

Runcorn Linnets visit Salford City, while in the Second Division, Bootle entertain Padiham.
