Gateshead 3, Prescot Cables 0

Cables failing miserably to shut the Gate on relegation fears

GATESHEAD enjoyed a comfortable success that cemented their position in the UniBond Premier League play-offs as Cables plunged into the relegation zone.

Prescot took the game to the Tynesiders but Gateshead’s first attack was finished clinically by Southern in the eighth minute. They increased their lead on 12 minutes when the visitors were found wanting in defence and allowed Bowey to convert.

Prescot were denied a lifetime near the interval when Steve McEwen rose well to head the ball into the top corner. The referee, however, blew for a mysterious infringement.

Prescot fell further behind through a farcical goal, Kristopher Gate scoring in the 62nd minute.

PRESCOT CABLES: Hibbert, Cooney, Smith, McEwen, Bell, Owens, Wade, E Taylor, Byers (Kennedy), T Taylor (Price), Flood (Croxton).
