Gray: We can beat drop

ANDY GRAY hopes his Prescot Cables side can build on an inspirational midweek performance as they battle for UniBond League Premier Division survival.

With two games left, Cables are facing relegation, as four straight defeats having sent Gray’s men sliding into the bottom two.

But as he prepares the Valerie Park side for today’s vital home game against Whitby Town, he believes an impressive showing in last Monday’s 1-0 Liverpool Senior Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Liverpool Reserves can inspire his players.

“We may have lost, but it was to a superb goal and our performance was outstanding. Hopefully that will give the lads a massive shot in the arm,” he said. “I am confident we have got what it takes to get out of it. We definitely need six points from the two games to make absolutely sure.”

Burscough play the first of two home games to round off their Blue Square North season.

The eighth-placed Linnets entertain Gainsborough Trinity.

Vauxhall Motors, already doomed to relegation, host Hinckley United.

Marine, who only have an outside mathematical chance of a UniBond League Premier Division play-off place, visit Buxton.

And manager Alvin McDonald says he won’t risk any players rated 50-50 prior to next week’s Liverpool Senior Cup final against Liverpool Reserves at College Road.
