Two wins and 10 goals in two days for Everton Ladies

EVERTON LADIES dominated the weekend’s action, as they played two fixtures in 24 hours.

Due to a mixture of postponed games, the side’s UEFA Cup campaign and delays to the start of the season due to September’s World Cup, these fixtures had to be played close together.

And as the title race had been decided a couple of weeks earlier, the coaching team felt it be better to have the fixtures played, rather than try to extend the season further. The first fixture was against Watford on Saturday and the win was quite convincing, as Everton ran out 4-1 victors.

Natasha Dowie opened the scoring with only two minutes on the watch for the perfect start, although the joy was short lived when just two minutes later Ashlee Hicks put the scores level.

But it wasn’t until deep in the second period that the Everton regained the lead, and it was Dowie again taking the plaudits.

She then got her hat-trick when she converted a penalty with 20 minutes left.

After collecting one win, the side took the field at Ford Sports and Social Club in Cronton on Sunday against relegated Cardiff. Dowie opened the scoring just before the half hour, and then two minutes later academy graduate Michelle Hinnigan made it 2-0.

Rachel Unitt put Everton further ahead while Jill Scott found herself on the scoresheet just before the break.

Toni Duggan then fired home another and Jo Potter’s cross took a wicked defection deep into the second half to seal the 6-0 win.

Everton have one more league fixture to play as they host Charlton at Ford Sports and Social this Sunday. The game gets underway at 2pm.

Also in action at the weekend are Liverpool, as they take on Northern Ireland in a friendly at Anfield.

Kick-off for that game is at 11am and tickets cost £2 and can be bought from Anfield or from the Liverpool club shop in the city centre.
