Chairman follows manager through exit

A WEEK after manager Jim Vince walked out, Mike Worthington has resigned as chairman of Northwich-based UniBond Premier Division club Witton Albion who recently failed in the play-offs for the second season running.

In a statement the departing Witton chairman said: “It’s the right time, I have no regrets apart from not delivering the promotion supporters so richly deserved. I have done 10 years and it’s time for someone else to have a go.”

Formerly on the Altrincham board, director Mark Harris takes over the chairmanship but has made it clear he does not wish to take the position permanently.

Harris would not confirm or deny that ex-manager Vince might now be invited to return to Wincham Park. Witton fans were last week shocked when, after topping the table since September, their team lost the title to Fleetwood Town, then went out at home to Buxton in the semi-final play-off in a penalty shoot-out. Gateshead have since joined Fleetwood in promotion to Blue Square North.
