AT last the season has come to an end with all the titles and cups won after a long and eventful campaign.
The remaining cup final was fought out at Poulton Vics FC and resulted in a great game full of fast-flowing football that ended in a 6-1 success to The Tower, as they saw off the gallant challenge of The Office to take the Magee Cup.
Office certainly played better than in the Premier Cup final and had Tom Murray as their man of the match, but a solitary goal was scant reward for their efforts. Showing the way was Dave Rudge for Tower as he notched two great goals and put in a man of the match performance to add to his growing reputation. Excellent goals from Mike Pickles, following a flowing move, Paul Murray, with a great volley, Max Blood with a great chipped goal and a 40-yard screamer from Craig Griffiths added to the tally as Tower finished the game in confident fashion to collect their second trophy of the season.
Three other games took place in Division Two and saw Young Lions overcome Leasowe Alliance with a 3-1 result, in which Harry Anson grabbed a superb treble to put them into the top five of the table.
FC Victoria ended in the top six following their 6-3 defeat of Stanley’s Cask, thanks to an Elvis Zinyama double, plus singles from Jamie Batton, Darren White,m Graham Plant and Phil Smith. Hitting the responses were Neil Campbell, top scorer Darren Wright and the evergreen stalwart Brian Smedley, who claimed his first of the season.
Irby FC finished their season with a 3-2 victory over champions Liscard Bronze to ensure they took the runners-up spot.
The Friday night Division One cup final saw Oyster Catcher claim their fifth piece of silverware with a 1-0 win over battling Pilot Boat as they scored the winner in the 94th minute through Paul Howell to end a magnificent season.
All member clubs are reminded that the AGM will take place in the Bronze Social Club on Thursday, June 5, starting at 7.40pm and league applications and subscriptions should now be paid to the League Secretary.
