EVERTON LADIES completed their league season on Sunday, thrashing relegated Charlton 7-0 at the Ford Sports and Social club in Cronton.
The clean sheet represents another achievement for the side, as they end the season with the joint best defensive record in the division with champions Arsenal, although the Gunners have a game to play.
Fara Williams celebrated her hat-trick for England in midweek with the opening goal from the penalty spot.
A quick-fire double before half time from Jo Potter and Toni Duggan put the home side 3-0 in front.
After the break Jody Handley scored her 19th of the season and centre-half Lindsay Johnson got a goal – her second of the campaign.
Williams then scored her second of the game deep into the second half, and Duggan completed her brace and the scoring with her fourth goal in the last three games.
“The girls have done really well,” said coach Keith Marley
“They’ve done a really professional job and the seasons over and we’ve finished on a high.
“All-round it was a good performance. I think we were more pleased to keep a clean sheet, so we could finish with the league’s best defensive record. I think that was our biggest plus.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool ran riot at Anfield as they beat Northern Ireland 6-0 on Saturday.
They totally out-classed an international side which only lost 1-0 to England in a recent Euro 2009 qualifier.
Jill Hart was the first to put her name on the scoresheet, and then the floodgates opened with Chantelle Parry, Jo Edwards, Jo Traynor, Caroline Charlton and Cheryl Foster all registering.
Manager David Bradley said: “Our performance and our football was first class.”
Both Liverpool and Everton end their season’s next week, as they battle it out in Liverpool Senior Cup final at Goodison Park this Sunday (2pm).
Tickets can be bought from the County FA at £3 (adults) and £1 (children).
