Former Anfield youngster Wignall gives AFC victory
A NEW look AFC Liverpool team overturned an early deficit to end up 2-1 winners at Altcar Road.
Manager Derek Goulding had made several changes to the side, bringing in a number of new faces.
Formby were the first to score after the visitors missed their chance to clear, with the ball slotted into the keeper's right-hand corner.
The away side won a penalty following a great through-ball from Kevin Poole, starting for the first time. Dean Thurston claimed the penalty but was unlucky to thunder it against the crossbar.
He made amends soon afterwards however with a stunning volley that drew the visitors level.
Paul Willis, in the AFC goal showed exactly why he is a former under-21s international, making two outstanding saves.
The first required a strong hand to palm a powerful strike over the bar. The second was a one on one stop when Formby appeared certain to score.
He added further to a fine display when stopping a Formby penalty in the second half by diving low to his right to push it wide.
The winner came from former Liverpool player Ryan Wignall after fine build up play down the left, giving the visitors a deserved victory.
