Port back to winning ways

SOUTHPORT maintained their one-point lead at the top of Blue Square North with a comfortable 3-0 home victory over bottom club Hucknall Town.
All the goals came in the opening 34 minutes as the Sandgrounders bounced back from their shock home defeat at the hands of Alfreton Town seven days earlier.
With the points virtually assured after their opening half hour scoring spree, manager Liam Watson reflected: “It was important that we carried on and kept a clean sheet. We missed a few chances in the second half, but we did what we had to do.”
Ciaran Kilheeney opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, and the division’s top scorer last season grabbed his second goal 10 minutes later, with Matty McGinn adding the third.
