Sheridan double keeps leaders on victory trail

MATCH of the day in the Vodkat League First Division saw leaders AFC Liverpool hammer a previously unbeaten Oldham Town 5-0.

Ian Sheridan set the Reds on their way after five minutes, Ian Johnson doubling his side’s lead five minutes later.

Roared on by a healthy crowd of 326, the home side took command in the second half with Dean Thurston, Dave Eaton and Sheridan completing the rout.

Ashton Town remain rooted to the foot of the table after a 4-1 defeat at Stone Dominoes, despite Jonathan Parkinson opening the scoring for Town.

St Helens Town also opened the scoring, but they slipped to a 2-1 reverse at Silsden, Dyson netting for Saints.

Runcorn Linnets were held to their first draw of the season despite taking the lead twice. Steve Pickup netted on three minutes only to see Tom Ruttle level for visitors Ramsbottom United 10 minutes later.

Mike Morrison restored the Linnets’ advantage on the half-hour only to see victory denied by a late Stevenson equaliser.

Formby suffered a single goal home defeat with New Mills netting with virtually the last kick of the game.

A brace in the last two minutes from Phil Mason cemented Winsford United’s success at struggling Atherton Collieries. A Lee Madin spot kick and Darren Connell had set the Barton Stadium side up for a comfortable 4-0 win.

Bootle’s FA Cup dreams are on hold for another year after they lost 3-1 at UniBond League side Buxton, Will Dolan replying.
