Motormen recover to share spoils

VAUXHALL were made to pay for a poor defensive display against an average Hyde side at Ewan Fields.
Hyde’s David Owens coolly opened the scoring on 27 minutes, placing the ball beyond Coates and it got worse four minutes later when Chris Simm chased down a long ball which Coates should have dealt with but instead missed it completely and Simm placed the ball into the empty net.
On 42 minutes however, Vauxhall got themselves back into the game when Karl Noon chased down a through ball and poked it beyond the on-rushing Dootson to make it 2-1 at the interval.
Less than a minute into the 2nd half and the Vauxhall defence was exposed again. As the ball came into the box Coates palmed the ball away but only into the path of Nicky Clee who had the simplest of tap-ins to make it 3-1.
The deciding moment of the match was on 52 minutes when Karl Noon was adjudged to have been hauled down by Karl Munroe. The referee pointed to the spot but as the kick was about to be taken, he decided to consult his linesman who thought Noon had dived therefore booked Noon and gave Hyde a free-kick.
This decision seemed to have knocked the sails out of Vauxhall and Hyde could have won by a greater margin. On 75 minutes Simm only had the Vauxhall keeper to beat but his shot hit the post then 2 minutes later, it was Owens again for Hyde, this time his left foot shot from 20 yards out cannoned off the cross bar.
Vauxhall will have to step up their game if they are to have any chance against Southport in the cup next Saturday.
