CAMMELL Laird goalkeeper Ritchie Whiteside grabbed a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to drag the Birkenhead side off the foot of the UniBond League Premier Division table.
Whiteside joined his team-mates in the Frickley Athletic area to force the ball home from a free-kick and earn his side a 1-1 draw in west Yorkshire after Jonathan Groome looked to have earned the home side victory with an 89th-minute goal.
Skelmersdale United made FA Trophy progress with a 2-1 home victory over Shepshed Dynamo in the preliminary round.
Sean McConville's 20th-minute penalty put Skem ahead, only for Ian Robinson to fire the visitors level in the 66th minute, but Tom Walker grabbed a stoppage-time winner for Tommy Lawson's men.
Warrington Town drew 0-0 at Chorley and replay at Cantilever Park tomorrow.
AFC Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Vodkat League First Division to four points with a 4-0 home victory over Daisy Hill, Andy McCoy scoring twice with Ian Sheridan and a Mark Westworth own goal completing the pace-setter’s goal tally.
Northwich Victoria squandered the lead to suffer another setback in the Blue Square Premier League when they lost 2-1 to Kettering Town.
Joel Byrom had given Mike Marsh’s side a useful lead with an accurate 25-yard shot against a good home side. However, two goals in the last 20 minutes saw Kettering take all three points with Beardsley striking on 72 minutes and Westcarr grabbing the winner nine minutes from time when he pounced a long punt forward and punished the Vics’ defence for dithering.
