McCready eyeing a Rovers return

CHRIS McCREADY hopes to be included in the Crewe squad against his former club Tranmere at Prenton Park tonight.

The defender is fit again after nine weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Striker Tom Pope will return to the squad after he resumed training this week following a bout of illness. The 23-year-old will be competing Anthony Elding, Byron Moore, Clayton Donaldson and Calvin Zola for a place up front.

The Railwaymen look to improve on a dismal start to the season, losing eight out of 12 League One games so far. A 3-2 defeat to fellow strugglers Yeovil in midweek saw Crewe drop to the bottom of the division.

Coach Steve Holland said he is looking to strengthen the squad by making signings in the loan market.

He said: “It is still frustrating, the inconsistency of the individuals.

“We have to keep looking at that and seeing if we can address that by bringing in players on loan that will be more consistent.”
