Hickey makes mark as Bootle find winning ways

BOOTLE returned to winning ways in the Vodkat League division one with a 4-2 success over Holker Old Boys.

A late second-half hat-trick from Anthony Hickey sealed the points after Chris Tyson had given his side the lead.

Ashton Town remain anchored to the foot of the table after losing 2-0 at home to Eccleshall.

In the Premier Division, Winsford United won for the first time in seven outings thanks to a 33rd-minute Mike Owens goal at Formby, but St Helens Town slid to their seventh successive defeat when visitors Squires Gate dominated the game and ran out comfortable 3-1 victors.

Phil Mitchell netted a late consolation goal for Saints while Steve Hibbert notched a splendid second half hat-trick for The Gate.

Another side to dominate proceedings were Ashton Athletic, whose victory was never in doubt at Maine Road. Strikes from Lee Edwards, Dave Sherlock and Kevin Kynaston eased Athletic to a 3-0 win.
