Marine’s super run on travels brought to an end

MARINE have earned themselves a reputation as a tough team to beat away from home this season, but someone forgot to mention that to their UniBond League Premier Division hosts Bradford Park Avenue.
The Mariners were a goal down after just 11 minutes when Lee Williams gave away a corner and the resulting cross found the head of Avenue’s Chris Hall.
Hall would go on to cause countless more problems for Marine’s back four, who dealt with the pacy striker well.
A clearance from the Avenue keeper Jon Wornsop found Hall on the halfway line. The number 10 controlled the ball well and jinked past two of his markers, laying off a great pass to substitute Mark Bett, who took a touch before firing a powerful shot goalwards. Marine keeper Sean Lake dived to his right and managed to get a hand to the ball, but Bett’s rocket of a shot was too hot to handle and Avenue were 2-0 up.
Manager Alvin McDonald can take heart from the performance of John Lawless, who throughout the second half was a nightmare for Avenue’s left-back.
The wiry winger continually used his quick feet and change of pace to pepper the goal with a combination of shots and crosses, but unfortunately it was not enough and his side were left to reflect on the end of their six-match unbeaten away run on the journey back to Merseyside.
