FIRST-HALF strikes from Ciaran Kilheeney and Steve Daly were enough to secure Southport a first win in three attempts at their Haig Avenue home.
Port had surprisingly gone behind when Michael Frew’s 11th minute cross was deflected past Tony McMillan, but the Sandgrounders replied with two goals in five minutes to keep pace with Blue Square North leaders Tamworth.
Frew’s fortunate opener briefly put the brakes on Southport’s bright start but eight minutes after falling behind, Daly side-footed them level after a dazzling run by Mark Duffy had put him in.
Five minutes later Duffy again turned provider when his spirited run found Kilheeney, who finished neatly from the edge of the box.
A third goal would always secure the game for Port but King’s Lynn looked a more imposing presence after the interval and Matty McGinn’s goal-line clearance denied Simon Weaver a headed equaliser.
Liam Watson’s men eventually steadied the ship and saw out what developed into a heated finale to the match.
