GOALS were at a premium in the Premier Division of the Vodkat League, but a penalty by Steve Cunningham gave Runcorn Linnets victory over Glossop North End.
The success sees Linnets move into seventh, their highest standing this season.
Going in the opposite direction are St Helens Town, who slid to their ninth successive defeat when visitors Alsager Town secured the points with a lone Louis James goal.
Tim Craig gave Formby a seventh minute lead but their joy was short-lived as Matt Walwyn hit a brace for league leaders AFC Fylde, who head the table by three points .
A lone Dave Sherlock goal on 75 minutes ensured Ashton Athletic returned to winning ways at Ramsbottom United while a late strike from Darren Connell saw Winsford United share the spoils in a disappointing 1-1 draw with Colne. AFC Liverpool are in freefall after sliding to a fourth successive defeat, but still hold a one-point lead over second-placed Padiham who inflicted their latest 3-0 reverse. Ashton Town went down by the same scoreline at home to Holker Old Boys, their 14th defeat of the campaign leaving them anchored at the foot of the table. Bootle returned from Cheadle Town 4-0 winners, a brace from Andy Fowler, Anthoney Hickey and Danny O’Connor doing the damage.
