McAllister goes on attack despite injury-hit squad

MANAGER Gary McAllister insists a crop of injuries and suspensions won’t inhibit Leeds style when they take on Tranmere at Prenton Park this afternoon.

Leeds will be without 19-goal striker Jermaine Beckford and Birkenhead-born midfielder Andy Robinson, who have hamstring strains while Fabian Delph is serving a one-match ban. McAllister said: “We’re missing three key players, but when I look through the team I’m going to play, it isn’t weakened. We’re going there to attack and to keep a clean sheet.

“They’re on our coat-tails, but we’re not looking backwards and we have to start winning games away from home.”

McAllister wants Leeds to draw inspiration from the 2-1 win they achieved at Prenton Park on the opening day of last season, when Dennis Wise was in charge of the team.

He said: “We’ll have a bit more of that.

“I’ve watched that game back and it was a memorable ending.

“It started a sequence of late results and last-gasp winners.

“We’re going there with the same sort of mindset as the players who went there last year.

“We’ll be very strong and bounded together by something that’s gone wrong. Last year it was administration and the 15-point deduction, this year it’s the FA Cup defeat to Histon.”

Tranmere boast a strong selection hand.

John Johnson, a 19-year-old defender signed on loan from Middlesbrough, is due to make his League One debut at right-back today.

Mark Wilson, another loan player, could well return to the midfield after being unavailable for last Saturday’s goalless FA Cup second-round tie Peterborough.

Striker Chris Greenacre continues to be ruled out by a back injury.
