Wright: We are ready for fight of our lives

CHESTER CITY return to action after an 11 day lay-off this afternoon, when they face AFC Bournemouth in a crucial Coca-Cola League Two clash at Dean Court. The Dorset club started the season on minus 17 points because of financial irregularities, but their point in midweek at Luton Town means that they are now on zero. City manager Mark Wright is expecting a tough game from the Dorset outfit. He said: “We know we are up against it and we also know that they are going to be fighting for their lives and they will be firing on all cylinders. They played well against Luton on Tuesday without Sammy Igoe and Darren Anderton, so we’re going to face a tough game.“Bournemouth are scoring goals at the moment and they will be coming after us. They scored three goals at Grimsby and three goals at Luton this week and they’ve got Lee Bradbury up front who can hold the ball up and can be a real handful.“Whether Bournemouth are in a false position I don’t know because I haven’t seen enough of them, but certainly they are a bigger club and they shouldn’t be in the position they are in. We should be going down to Bournemouth full of confidence, because we had a good win at Darlington and we have trained well this week. If the players can stick together and do the right things, I think they will give themselves a fighting chance in everything they do.”Wright’s squad has been decimated by injuries and suspensions, with Kevin Ellison, Jay Harris and Ryan Williams all banned, and Eddie Johnson, Paul Butler and Stephen Vaughan ruled out because of injury. The City manager added: “We will include midfielder James Owen and centre-half Christian Platt in our squad at Bournemouth, because we’ve been hit by players who are out with injuries and suspensions.“Christian Platt will be coming with us because we haven’t got enough cover on the bench. But I have looked at him and he can head balls, make tackles and he can run.“I am disappointed that Ryan Williams is suspended because he would have stood a chance of starting, especially with Jay Harris ruled out with a suspension. Ryan looks to me to be a big prospect, but I am disappointed that he is now suspended for three games.“Our bench will probably consist of two or three youngsters which is far from ideal, but ultimately it’s great for the club, because if we have got kids coming through we don’t have to go out and buy people.“If we can develop the youngsters we’ve got like Ryan Williams and James Owen, then why do we need to go and pay exorbitant money for other players?“I would like to slowly bring the younger players through and look at them. Maybe they will even do the distance of some of the other boys on big money. I feel Ryan and James in the centre of midfield are doing well and they look to have a great future ahead of them.”Darren Anderton will be making his final professional appearance this afternoon before retiring and Wright paid this tribute to the 36-year-old Bournemouth winger. He said: “Darren has had a number of injuries in his career, but in his days with Tottenham Hotspur and England he was the best player in his position in the country. He has clocked up nearly 600 first class games, which is a credit to him.”CHESTER CITY (from): Danby, S Williams, J Vaughan, Roberts, Kelly, Linwood, Wilson, Mozika, Dinning, Barry, Hughes, Rutherford, McManus, Lowe, Mitchell, Platt, Owen, Partridge.Coca-Cola League Two clash at Dean Court.
