Meanwhile Bristol Rovers manager Paul Trollope is looking for a response from his team when they face Tranmere at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Trollope has pledged to make changes in defence after errors contributed to a 3-2 defeat at Millwall last weekend, a result that stretched the Pirates’ winless run to six games and left them just clear of the relegation places.

With injured defender Danny Coles likely to be the only player unavailable to face Rovers, Trollope has various possibilities as he considers how to return to winning ways.

“There are options and we will work on the training ground this week with people in different positions and see who shapes up the best. It will be down to the players who starts on Saturday,” said Trollope.

“We think we have a decent group of players and we are producing a level of football that is probably the best since I have been in the job in terms of our passing, our movement and our attacking play.

“But all three of the goals we let in at Millwall were avoidable and the bottom line is that we need to improve defensively.

“We are not downhearted in terms of our performance level. But when you have little runs like this – and we have had them before – you struggle if you lose confidence and belief in what you are doing and the run continues.

“We know we are performing to a good level but we know there are improvements to be made and we will work hard to make them.”

Trollope is optimistic Chris Lines will be available despite needing stitches in a head wound which saw him stretchered off in the first half at the New Den. Midfielder Richard Langley missed the Millwall game with a calf problem but should also be available.

Trollope added: “Tranmere had a good result against Leeds on Saturday so they will be buoyant when they come here.

“We are back at home after being a little bit disappointed not to beat Swindon in our last game at the Memorial Stadium – and we need a win.”
