TRANMERE can expect to find a much-improved playing surface at the Memorial Stadium when they take on Bristol Rovers this afternoon.
The Pirates made a big investment during the summer in the pitch they share with the local rugby union club. Last season’s 1-1 draw between the team was played in heavy, muddy conditions.
Whatever the conditions, manager Ronnie Moore does not want to compromise the way Rovers play.
He said: “It was very difficult to get the ball down and play last season but that is what we will try to do.
“We were half decent in getting a result there in spite of having Steve Jennings sent off.”
Moore looks for skipper Antony Kay to continue a burst of scoring after notching strikes against Leeds United last Saturday and Peterborough in midweek – taking him to four for the season.
Moore said “He probably know himself he should be getting more goals now that he is playing in midfield.”
Rovers will be able to welcome back on-loan defender John Johnson, who did not have clearance from his club, Middlesbrough, to play in the FA Cup.
However, Mark Wilson, the midfielder on loan from Doncaster, is rated as a “big doubt” by Moore after turning over an ankle in the 2-1 win over the Leeds last Saturday.
