Adkins looks for response after forfeiting three-goal lead

SCUNTHORPE manager Nigel Adkins welcomes back midfielder Grant McCann from suspension for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern semi-final against Tranmere.

Adkins has called on his players to bounce back from the weekend’s 4-4 home draw against Northampton, which saw the Iron forfeit a 4-1 advantage.

“You’ve got to pick yourself up because we’ve got a chance of going to Wembley,” he said.

Adkins wants a big improvement from his defenders after lapses at the back proved so costly against the Cobblers.

He said: “Defensively we were just not good enough.

“You cannot afford to give away the sorts of goals we did and still expect to win a football match.

“We have to sort ourselves out with the personnel we already have or I will have to go out and bring somebody else in.”
