Lairds on top in feast of goals

CAMMELL LAIRD recorded a much-needed Unibond Premier Division victory in a rain-sodden thriller at Kirklands.

Guiseley stormed into a 2-0 lead after just 21 minutes with two goals in two minutes, Bambrook putting the visitors ahead before a defensive slip allowed Muller to double the advantage.

Lairds rallied and clawed level by the interval as Richie Foulkes and Lee Atherton struck on 41 and 45 minutes as Guiseley lost their early defensive composure.

In the second half the viewing spectacle continued as Guiseley went ahead again on 56 minutes when Jerome Fitzgerald took advantage of a poor goalkeeping parry to return the ball straight into the net. Atherton took advantage of a poor clearance from the Guiseley keeper to draw Lairds level on the hour and Danny Andrews had the spectators on their feet on 69 minutes as the home team took the lead for the first time.

A rare goal from Anthony Sheehan seemed to have wrapped it up, but Chris Bolder scored on 87 minutes to ensure a nervy finale.
