A FOOTBALL exhibition at a Liverpool museum which features some of the world’s most famous trophies is extending its run.

The UEFA display, entitled Only a Game? at the World Museum on William Brown Street remains open until April 26 – a month longer than originally planned.

The exhibition, which explores Europe’s love affair with the beautiful game, features a selection of prestigious artefacts, trophies and memorabilia from over the last 50 years.

Visitors have so far witnessed a rare occasion, all four of UEFA’s most prestigious trophies on show, featured alongside an array of objects and ephemera from the National Football Museum in Preston.

The exhibition opened in October 2008 in collaboration with Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), National Football Museum and National Museums Liverpool.

Although the Champions League Trophy left the exhibition in December, visitors will still be able to see the UEFA Cup until March 8, and the UEFA European Championship (EURO) Trophy and UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup until April 26.

John Millard, executive director of World Museum Liverpool said: “Only a Game? is making its only UK appearance in Liverpool, and we’re extremely pleased to be able to extend the run of this popular exhibition in arguably one of Europe’s great capitals of football.”

To celebrate the extension, World Museum Liverpool has teamed up with the Capital of Culture’s Cities on the Edge programme to provide free screenings of fly-on-the-wall film On the Edge of Passion.
