Tranmere Rovers may appeal Ian Goodison's red card

TRANMERE were examining video replays last night as they considered whether to make an appeal against Ian Goodison’s dismissal in the 2-1 win over Hereford at Prenton Park.

The Jamaican international defender was given his marching orders for a 72nd-minute tackle on Marc Pugh. The straight red offence is liable to result in a suspension that rules Goodison out of the three remaining games of their challenge for a League One play-off spot. Moore said: “I want to have a close look at the sending off incident on video. We have to be careful because we know what appeals can be like. I spoke to (Hereford manager) Graham Turner and he did not think it was a sending off.”

Moore added: “We don’t really want to be losing him with three games to go and a three-game ban would hurt us a little bit. We would have to disrupt our midfield by pulling Antony Kay into the defence. That is something we don’t really want to do because we miss Antony when he is not in the midfield. But if that’s what we have to do, so be it.”

Goodison’s dismissal spoiled a successful day for Tranmere, who completed a six-point haul from the Easter programme.

The victory kept them sixth, two points ahead of Scunthorpe, who have two games in hand. Moore said: “It was a scrappy game but we did what we wanted to do, which was to win it. We’ve taken maximum points over Easter and it was disappoint-ing the crowd got frustrated with the performance. It’s not easy when you are down to 10 men.

“When we went 2-0 up in the first half I wanted us to go on. The third goal would have been so important but we never really got going in the second half. I can only put that down to a bit of fatigue. We’ve had a lot of games lately – but the right results.”
