Ronnie Moore positive about Tranmere Rovers’ vital visit to fellow play-offs hopefuls Leeds United

Ronnie Moore

Moore said: "Simon has done a brilliant job. But Leeds do have a big squad of players, a massive budget and they should be in this position.

"I believe we are as good as any team at this level. If we put in the performance we are capable of, then Leeds will know they have been in a game."

With 72 points on the board from the first 43 games, Tranmere are already enjoying the most productive of their three seasons under Moore’s management.A total 72 points was, more often than not, sufficient to take a team into the League One play-offs over recent years.

But the bar will be raised in 2008/09 and Moore acknowledges Rovers must rely on rivals making a mistake or two over the next fortnight.

Scunthorpe, two points behind Tranmere in seventh place, have two games in hand although they face a difficult test at home to fourth placed MK Dons today.

Moore said: "It is impossible to know how many points will do it because we don’t know how many games our rivals are going to win. We are not daft. We know we need a bit of help."

"We just have to make sure we do our own job. I believe that if we win out three remaining games that will do it. It would be very unusual for a team to get 81 points and not make the playoffs."

Moore won’t say how he intends to fill the defensive gap left by Ian Goodison, who is starting a four-game suspension for his dismissal in the 2-1 win over Hereford on Easter Monday.

The most likely reshuffle will see skipper and play-maker Antony Kay drop back into the heart of the defence alongside Ben Chorley, with Gareth Edds coming into the midfield. Rovers hope Steve Jennings shakes off a breathing problem that has hampered him in recent weeks.

Meanwhile Leeds hope to have striker Jermaine Beckford after back after missing three games with a thigh injury. Grayson says the 31-goal marksman won’t be risked if there is any doubt about his fitness.
