Goodison transfer rumours may rock John Barnes’ pre-season Tranmere Rovers preparations

THE future of Tranmere defender Ian Goodison could be in the balance as reports circulated last night that the Jamaican international defender wants a transfer.

The 36-year-old centre back, who has been on international duty with Jamaica during the summer, is yet to play a part in Rovers' pre-season preparations under new manager John Barnes.

He is under contract to the League One club for the next two seasons.

Goodison is due to report back to Prenton Park this week, Barnes said last Friday, after delays over the issue of a new passport caused him to remain in the Caribbean longer than planned. There was no official word from Tranmere on the matter last night.

Goodison boasts more than 120 caps with Jamaica. He was left out of the side on occasions after Barnes became coach of the Jamaica national team last year.

But was recalled by new coach Theodore Whitmore, a former Tranmere team-mate, after Barnes relinquished the international job to take charge of Tranmere last month.

Meanwhile, Chesterfield are being linked with a move for Mark Allott, the midfielder who joined Tranmere at the start of last month. Allott was the last signing to be made by former Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore, who was sacked a few days later.

The experienced 31-year-old is a former Chesterfield player.
