Gary Megson determined to avoid giant-killing when Bolton visit Tranmere Rovers in the Carling Cup

BOLTON Wanderers manager Gary Megson is already feeling the heat of the Barclays Premier League team’s boo-boys as he heads to Prenton Park tonight.

A 1-0 defeat at Hull City prompted a chorus of, “we want Megson out”, from a section of visiting supporters and the manager admitted such intense pressure made the Carling Cup clash against Tranmere all the more difficult.

“We’ve got a really, really difficult game coming up against Tranmere – not just because they are a decent side on their own ground with a chance of upsetting the odds, but also because we’ve got Liverpool at home coming up,” he said.

“We’ve got to make sure that everybody in the club sticks together. We’ve been here before and we’ve done it and we’ll have to do it again.

“We are going to have to circle the wagons in the dressing room.

“The spirit in there and around the football club is fantastic but we have to cope with things that have the ability to impact on us.”

Full-back Gretar Stensson could be in line for his first start of the season at Prenton Park.

The Icelandic defender missed Wanderers’ opening two fixtures in the Barclays Premier League, but recovered from a virus to take his place on the bench at Hull.
